Fantastic original 1950s advertising poster for the Barcelona Fiestas de la Merced festival.
La Mercè is the annual festival of the city of Barcelona in Catalonia, Spain. It has been an official city holiday since 1871, when the local government first organised a program of special activities to observe the Roman Catholic feast day of Our Lady of Mercy, La Mare de Déu de la Mercè in Catalan. Although the actual feast day is September 24, the festivities begin a few days beforehand.
The week long festivities include the parading of papier mache 'giants', Castellers (human towers) and lots of dancing and drumming as nicely pictured on this wonderful design by Pla Domenech.
This vintage poster was originally folded (as issued) but has been stored flat a long time and fold-lines barely noticeable. It's in Excellent/Near Mint condition, just light creasing and nicks on edges. Looks fabulous. It will be sent rolled (unframed).
